Head Units

For every automotive OEM client, Garmin delivers in-car technologies and intuitive user interfaces customized to meet manufacturers’ requirements. We’ve designed factory-installed head unit solutions for many of today’s leading global automakers, including BMW, Toyota, Honda and Mercedes.

Design, Integration and Manufacturing

Design, Integration and Manufacturing

Garmin works closely with its customers to design, test and manufacture cutting-edge head units, from entry Display Audio to high-end solutions for premium automakers. Garmin systems can be tightly integrated with other components, including the instrument cluster, driver monitoring system, Head-Up Display (HUD), rear-seat entertainment and telematics modules.

Entry Display Audio Solutions

Garmin provides flexible, entry Display Audio solutions such as the one shown here for Toyota. These systems can include CarPlay and Android Auto, an integrated tuner and media player, optional Garmin navigation and other apps.

Instrument Clusters

Garmin is expanding the auto industry’s vision of what an instrument display can do to make driving easier, safer and more enjoyable. An all-digital instrument configuration provides a cost-effective and highly integrated user experience that makes dynamic ADAS and other vehicle data easier to see, process and react to. Garmin will begin supplying an all-digital instrument cluster on a global basis to an automaker starting in 2022. Garmin offers both stand-alone cluster solutions or fully integrated designs that are powered by the head unit with isolation for safety-critical components. When combined with Garmin navigation, the cluster can receive independent and customizable moving maps.

Multiple Ways to Display

Garmin offers a wide range of options for presenting essential instrument data inputs — at the precise time and place the driver needs to see them. Software from Garmin can include instrument cluster and HUD user interfaces that adapt to the situation with, for example, different map and gauge views for your everyday commute and highway road trips.

The Passenger Experience

The Passenger Experience

Garmin offers cost-effective solutions for passenger access to navigation and multimedia entertainment options in the Connected Cabin. The system works with popular Android™ or Apple® formats to wirelessly stream content via the head unit to multiple devices onboard.

Are we there yet?

A driver in the Connected Cabin can let passengers view the active route and current location of the vehicle on a moving map as well as search POIs and send destinations to the driver via Wi-Fi® connectivity, using any Android or Apple mobile devices. Map tiles are streamed from the head unit, meaning only a small Garmin app download to the connected device is required.

Rear-seat Entertainment

Wireless connectivity with the head unit up front lets passengers use their mobile phones or tablets to watch and share streaming video or music content, with support for synchronized video playback across multiple devices.

Let's see what we can accomplish together.
